Easy DIY Detox
DETOX IS NOT A DIRTY WORD!
Detox should not be about deprivation, drinking just water for a day or swallowing a bucket of pills.
Detox should be packed with nutritious food that will gently help cleanse your body of the toxic rubbish you may have indulged in over Christmas. Try it for just a week (which if you were to draw a line from your birth to where you are now possibly wouldn’t even make a blip) If you stick to it, you should feel fabulous, sleep better, lose weight, have clear whites around your eyes and have bucket loads of energy. However the first couple of days as you come off caffeine and alcohol could make you feel a bit yucky – if you do, then you, and your body, more than anyone ‘need’ this detox. However, if you feel your symptoms are too severe, then consult a doctor – the detox may be too strong for you. 99% of the toxins will be eliminated via your liver. If you don’t have a good functioning liver this detox is not for you.
It’s easy to create your own detox regime with the foods that you actually enjoy rather than following someone else’s. Just follow the golden rules below and you should feel a new person in 7 days!!!
ps: don’t forget to drink lots of water! Here are the steps to take to start your detox
Also just have to say my daughter Tazzie and her friends Maddie and Mckenna designed and photographed the main photo!

3. Fizzy sweetened/diet sodas
4. Refined sugar
5. Processed foods
WHAT TO EAT
1. Green Veggies
2. Fresh fruit
HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR DETOX
1. Tell everyone – family, friends, people on the bus that you are on a detox mission
2. Write the benefits of the detox on a large post it note and stick it your fridge
3. Engage some of your family or friends to do the detox with you
4 Write your lifeline to date and mark a ‘blip’ on it to visualize exactly how short 7 days is in the whole scheme of things
5. DRINK LOTS OF WATER
MAKE YOUR OWN FRUIT TEA
A couple of slices of orange, lemon and lime, a cinnamon stick a tiny drop of vanilla and a star anise steeped for 5 minutes in hot water. Delicious and Oh sooooooo good for you!
TRY SOME OF THESE
1. Vegetable juice.
You don’t need a fancy juicer, just blend some green leafy vegetables (kale is a good option) with something to add a little sweetness (Apple is good) add a little zing (ginger or lemon) and top with coconut water or standard water. Whiz in the blender then you can either drink it with the tiny floaty bits ( really good for you!) or strain and drink.
2. Clear soup with veggies
Take a good organic broth. Add some flavor (chilli, sesame oil, Tamari sauce are good) Bring to simmer. Add lots of chopped veggies.( ccauliflower, kale, broccoli all good options) plus maybe some baby tomatoes and a dash of white wine vinegar to add a itlle zing, simmer for 3-4 minutes. Ad some superfoods (hemp seeds,, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds) Top with your favorite herb (Coriander is normally my choice!) Make a large pan of this and keep snacking throughout the day
3, Large crunchy salad
Make a base with your fave lettuces (spinach, arugula and some iceburg for a bit of texture). Add some crunch (along the lines of grated carrots, chopped celery, sliced cabbage). Add some flavor ( think unsweetened cranberries, tomatoes, chopped apple) and add some superfoods (chopped walnuts, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds) Add a dressing – 1/3 vinegar 2/3 oils whizzed together with 1 tbsp mustard add any other flavor you like to the dressing (herbs, chili,, fruit juice)
3. Detox Dessert
You don’t have to deny yourself dessert when detoxing. Try some of these delicious ideas or try my banana chocolate ice cream tart.
Try coring an apple and baking it for 45 minutes and top with a few dried fruits. Or Whiz up your own berry sorbet – take some frozen berries and fruit and whiz until smooth. Add a little lemon juice if you like it sour!
AND DON’T FOREGET TO DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!
